OK, time’s up, PiBoIdMo’ers! (PiBoIdMo’ites? PiBoIdMo’igans?)
Do you have 30 new picture book ideas?
You do? Excellent!
Time to take the PiBoIdMo winner’s pledge to qualify for one of our amazing-Ringling prizes! (Sorry, there are no circus animals to give away. I just felt like rhyming. I know, I shouldn’t rhyme.)
I do solemnly swear that I have faithfully executed
the PiBoIdMo 30-ideas-in-30-days challenge,
and will, to the best of my ability,
parlay my ideas into picture book manuscripts.
Now I’m not saying all 30 ideas have to be good. Some may just be titles, some may be character quirks. Some may be problems and some may create problems when you sit down to write. Some may be high-concept and some barely a concept. But…they’re yours, all yours!
You have until December 7th at 11:59:59PM EST to sign the pledge by leaving a comment on this post.
Remember, this is an honor system pledge. You don’t have to send in your ideas to prove you’ve got 30 of them. If you say so, I’ll believe you! (But for the record, I have no interest in purchasing a bridge at this time.)
Those whose name appears on both the kick-off post AND this winner’s pledge will be entered into the grand prize drawing: feedback on your best 5 ideas by a literary agent. There are three grand prizes! Thanks to Ammi-Joan Paquette of Erin Murphy Literary Agency plus Jen Rofe and Kelly Sonnack of Andrea Brown Literary Agency, Inc. for volunteering their time and talent to PiBoIdMo.
Other prizes include picture books, manuscript critiques, jewelry, journals, greeting cards and MUCH MORE! (Prize announcement post coming tonight!) All winners will be randomly selected by Random.org and announced on December 8th. And from now until the 7th, more guest bloggers will inspire you to develop your manuscripts.
But lucky you, you get your first prize now! This winner badge for your website, blog or social media site, designed by Bonnie Adamson. (If you display the badge, please link back to the PiBoIdMo page. You can make the badge larger or smaller…size it to fit anywhere.)
So what are you waiting for? Start signing…
…and start writing!
Thousands of children are depending on you!

Here’s my signature. I did it! Yes, a lot of the ideas are little blips, but I DO pledge to pop every one of them into a file on my computer and spend time figuring out which, if any, are worth taking to the next step. And then doing that. Thanks so much, Tara, for this great challenge!

The thought of the number of picture books that could result from this amazing month just boggles my mind.

(And I just repeated the pledge out loud, sitting in front of my computer.)

Thanks to PiBoIdMo and all the guest bloggers! One more thing, I won!–like many others here. Congrats to all. Happy dance time!

On my honor and cross my PB heart, I came up with 30+ ideas for this challenge and will most probably have to live until I am 103 to write all of their stories! Thanks, Tara, Bonnie, and everyone who participated. We are sooo fortunate to have such a wonderful kidlit community. xx oo PJM

I did it! And I’m amazed at how many ideas I came up with in just 30 days. I have 41 ideas in my main file, 44 random thoughts (which can be a title, or nugget I’d like to explore in more detail), and two that might weave their way into future picture books or novels. That’s a total of 87 ideas!
Thanks so much for organizing this wonderful challenge, Tara. I often get so caught up revising manuscripts that I don’t spend as much time as I should writing new ones. In the past year, I’ve written eight new picture books (based on PiBo ideas from last year) and a middle grade novel. I can’t wait to see how many manuscripts I end up with in 2012, fueled by all the ideas PiBoIdMo helped generate.

In fact, I just opened a blank ‘page’ in a new document for the idea that’s most demanding my attention. Had it not been for that ‘one last look’ at my in-box, where I found this post, I’d be writing it now! LOL! I’ve begun falling into that fabulous rabbit hole of writing blogs and links and posts, and, feeling like a sponge that has soaked up about as much as she can stand, will now log out of everything but my fresh, clean page. (Yeah, right. I swear I will try. 😉
Many thanks for this challenge, this community!

I have completed the challenge with over 40 ideas and have taken the pledge.
Tara, I cannot thank you enough, ever. I do believe that your inspiring challenge has helped to change my life and perspective. As a creative, I NEED this outlet, I need the prompts and encouragement. This year’s posts have been so educational, I cannot tell you how much this does for me. I won in PiBoIdMo again this year, I did not manage to complete in NaNoWriMo this year but my story is shaping up, and I believe that the time I spend as a full-time part-time caregiver for my dad who has Alzheimer’s has been less draining because of all the writing. As I said, creatives need the outlet.
THANK YOU, Tara. You are such a blessing. I also want to thank Bonnie for the very fitting badge design, which I believe exemplifies the creative awakening of PiBoIdMo.
Congratulations to everyone who participated, and I wish you success in developing those ideas into picture books. 🙂

Thanks for this. It’s been a great month. I came through it with darn near 40 ideas and counting. I think a habit is forming to just see ideas practically everywhere, or at least to be ready for them when they come (ahem, notebook in purse).
Thanks again!

Thank you so much, Tara, and thanks too to the guest bloggers for their inspirational and informative posts!
I came up with 36 ideas thanks to your challenge, and I hope to parlay at least 7 of them into picture books during NaPiBoWriWee 2012 which usually takes place in May.
Since some of my ideas are detailed, others more sparse, perhaps they’ll even be combined!
I look forward to participating again next year!

I have to admit that I’ve slacked off a bit for the last week or so, overtaken by the holidays and other stuff going on, and was cringing when I went to count up my ideas. But thanks to some of the earlier days when I had several ideas each day, my total is 31 ideas. And there are at least 4 that I’m pretty excited about.
Thank you SOOOO much Tara for doing this. You’ve given us all so much inspiration and I have loved this. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.

Thank you to all the writers who blogged their words of wisdom throughout the month. Some great tips, tricks, and advice! Now I have to find the time to sit down and write the brewing stories. In fact, that just gave me another story idea…better jot it down before I forget! Good luck to all as you build on your ideas. I would love to hear about successes as a result of PiBoIdMo. Be sure to tell us about your books that started as a crazy thought when you couldn’t come up with anything else on day 29 of PiBoIdMo and ends up getting selected for publication (I always like hearing success stories)! Oh yeah, and before I forget…I do so solemnly girls-scout-honor-swear that I have met my end of the bargain to generate 30+ story ideas during November. Now I will cross my fingers that I am one of the lucky winners!

My sign up post I said” Every day scares me TOTALLY but I will shut my eyes, put notifiers on my outlook, hold my breath and put my name down :-/”
I can’t believe I actually followed through to the very end. I ended up with nearly 40 ideas and some development work to boot! I have to say that the habit of tuning in more had helped me so much. I plan to use what I started here not only for the month but in both my illustration and writing in the future. Some of the challenges of parenthood have now become stories we laugh about as a family, which in itself was worth the exercise!
Congratulations to everyone on here that made the challenge. We can only wonder at the books that will come of this commitment. Tara you may need a page with a list of future publications so we can come back and celebrate the seed in which they came from.

32 Ideas here….
I must say, only one has really sparked a fully developed PB idea. I also happen to love it and shared it with another writer friend who loves it too. I hope all the others can be further developed also.
To all you other winning writers out there! Congratulations on a sucessful PiBoIdMo!

I have loved this challenge and feel totally inspired to keep going. 5 or 6 of these ideas are already on their way to becoming complete manuscripts – with illustrations!
Please consider this comment my “signing of the pledge” – and thank you again for the challenge!

I done did it! Somewhere around 40 ideas: 4 sketched out in detail, 2 waiting to bloom, and lots of titles, characters, and scenarios. I had my doubts about being able to do it, but PiBoIdMo was just the push this procrastinator needed. I’m really excited about the possibilities of several of these ideas, so thank you so much for the kick in the butt!
I do solemnly swear, indeed.

The past month was incredible, and I’m not just talking deep-fried turkey. The exchange of ideas and encouragement was amazing! The only way it would have been better would be if it was in October instead of November since October has 31 days!
And not only did I “get” more than 30 ideas, but the ideas are still coming. Woo-hoo! Bottle PiBoIdMo for writers everywhere!

Thank you for all the hard work behind the scenes. I did come up with ideas everyday and wrote them down. I think many of them are workable. I have already started to work on a couple of them. This week I also had a photo published in our city’s 2012 calendar, another photo in the top twenty of a local state park photo contest that is on display for the month of Dec. Where? My favorite place to visit; my local library, i have been invited to a young writer’s conf., invited to book festival in June and the opening line of my latest PB reads: Deep in the woods on a moonless night Henry sang,… . Like Shutta Crum suggests, who, what, where… truly thank you so much.

Yay! I made it!
Honestly when I started a month ago I really didn’t think I would get here. But for the first two weeks I surprised myself. Then a week ago I got so desperate I asked my lovely new staff at work to come up with some ideas. Boy! that proved a laugh for the afternoon. But a couple of festive outings over the weekend and I was back on track again and reached my 30 in the nick of time….. Yay! All thanks to you Tara I have 30 ideas I never had before.

In the morning of 30 November I had 30 ideas, by the evening I had 33… I’m planning to choose at least three of these ideas and work them out into picture book manuscripts. I can’t wait to start.
Thanks again, it was a great experience!

Did it, Tara! It got kind of sparse and kind of scary at the end there, but I did it! Wooo hoooo!
Thanks for making me focus. 🙂

It was hard and then fun and then scary and then amazing. Thank you so much for organising this and the daily guest blog posts as they really keep me on track.
